Determined, persistent, and humble are just a few adjectives that describe international reggae–dancehall recording artiste Trimma, whose real name is Kenyato Johnson. Born and raised in Pennants District, Clarendon, Jamaica, Trimma discovered early on that his life would be driven by passion, discipline, and creativity.

In his formative years, Trimma devoted himself to two growing interests: barbering and music recording. While he initially pursued both with equal focus, music soon began to take precedence as his recording activities intensified. Even before graduating high school, he became a member of the Fearless Crew, a collective of young and ambitious recording artistes. Encouraged by peers and listeners alike, Trimma was urged to take his musical talent seriously and pursue it as a career.

With the support of his family and fellow artistes, Trimma began networking relentlessly, recording with both Jamaican and international labels. Although barbering remained his primary source of income in his early recording days, he consistently invested extra time and effort into honing his musical craft. After graduating high school, he established himself as a skilled barber while simultaneously developing his career as a recording artiste.

The Fearless Crew later forged connections in Kingston, Jamaica, leading to an affiliation with Big Ship Records, where they recorded their first professional single, “Give Us Strength,” along with several others. During the early 1990s, Trimma became a familiar face on the Jamaican music scene, performing alongside notable artistes such as Silver Cat, Merciless, and others.

Trimma eventually began traveling to the United Kingdom, where he currently resides, while continuing to expand his musical reach globally. He has since released numerous singles under Krime Music Group (KMG) in London, receiving heavy rotation on local radio stations, as well as airplay in the United States, France, and Japan. Notable tracks include “Bedroom A Road,” “Work,” and “Wi A Party.”

In more recent years, Trimma has recorded several new singles and released multiple music videos, with his work gaining increasing international attention. His résumé includes performances alongside popular Jamaican artistes such as Chino, Laden, Gully Bop, Spice, I-Octane, Masicka, and others throughout London. He has also opened for numerous major acts and toured extensively across Europe, including Zurich, Belgium, and Switzerland. One standout moment saw him invited back on stage by I-Octane for a tune-for-tune clash—clear evidence of his versatility and lyrical dexterity.

To this day, Trimma continues recording for various Jamaican and international labels. He has released a mixtape titled “Cheer Fi Wi,” along with singles such as “Converse,” “Champion” (with an accompanying music video), “Outta Control” featuring Phetrol, “Mi A Come Fi It,” and “Check,” released between 2016 and 2018. His music consistently delivers uplifting messages that resonate with audiences worldwide.
